Many women were mistreated and not treated with respect there, potentially ending up inside just for being pregnant. In a convict ‘settlement’ with a ratio of 10 men to one women and much brutalisation, few rights would have been given to convict women and even less to the indigenous custodians. So many children also died there, many are buried on the hill facing.
